Come to the Knit Side....

So I have decided to take up knitting and crochet. I remember watching my grandmother and great aunt crochet these huge dolls that were, in my young girlie girl mind, really freaking awesome. I mean, my grandmother crocheted a Betsy Ross doll with flowing, red, white and blue dress with plastic stars she hot glued on. There were colorful dresses everywhere! Then she started making these pillow sized dolls. They were kinda creepy. They had these wonderful dresses, but instead of a full doll body, there was only a torso, head and arms. The bottom on these dolls were sewn shut and stuffed with an insane amount of poly fiber. They were designed to sit on your bed. She made one for my bed. I don’t remember much about it other than thinking the doll was possessed. She was creepy with blonde hair and these large blue eyes. She just sat there and stared like she was going to kill me in the middle of the night. (Puppet Master anyone?) I ended up shoving her in my closet. She freaked me out.
I won’t be making any creepy pillow dolls anytime soon (unless it is to torment my little sister who has a fear of dolls, but that is a different story), but I want to make blankets and hats, and socks….oh how I want to make socks. I’m an odd sock junkie. I picked up round knit looms and started on those. They are fun for hats and scarves. I hate the sock loom. The hooks are WAY to small and it is too much of a pain in the butt to try and work, so I’m sending that to a friend. My current project is a pink camo-looking blanket for my cousin’s baby. This is my first experience with using really large knitting needles and three strands of yarn instead of just the one. It is coming along. I dropped a stitch and nearly threw the project against the wall. Fixing a dropped stitch with one strand of yarn is enough of a pain the butt, but dropping three, or just one out of the three, it is torture, especially since I’m a newbie.
Enough musings for now. I’m sure my life is so exciting to you.
